Our 2026/27 charity partner: The Alzheimer's Society
From September, for the year ahead, our charity partner is the Alzheimer’s Society. As with all our fundraising, this has been suggested by one of our members and follows very successful recent campaigns to support Juno Women’s Aid, ChildLine Nottingham and Prostate Cancer UK. We have a starting target to raise £35K over the year.
Some of the statistics for dementia are truly shocking.
- Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer.
- every three minutes, someone in the UK develops dementia.
- one in three people born in the UK today will go on to develop dementia in their lifetime.
The Alzheimer’s Society does some wonderful work in supporting people affected by dementia and their carers. There are several local support services that provide amazing lifelines in our area. But we have heard so many stories about the pressures people face and the need for more support and services.
The Alzheimer’s Society also funds research in collaboration with leading scientists and people affected by dementia, to help with understanding the causes, develop effective treatments and improve care.
We want to do what we can this year to help the Alzheimer’s Society’s in their life changing work. We want to involve many people, through our music and our fundraising.
Events
Our Christmas charity concerts in Cotgrave in November and in Radcliffe and Bingham in December will be in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society. With our friends from Blidworth Brass and our established connections with local junior school choirs, we guarantee great seasonal entertainment. Come and join us..
In the spring, we will run Men United in Song: Raise your Voice for Alzheimer’s. A great opportunity for you or a man in your life to get involved with a short project, learn to sing, raise money for The Alzheimer’s Society and perform in a fabulous Southwell Minster concert. Our fundraising for the Alzheimer's Society
Radcliffe on Trent Male Voice Choir have set an initial target of £35,000 to support the Azheimer’s Society We hope to do this through ticket sales and donations at our Christmas charity concerts and will raise more through our singing project – Men United in Song: Raise your Voice for Alzheimer’s. We will be putting out the call for men to take on this challenge in the new year. This will be a fantastic challenge to be part of – challenge yourself to learn new pieces as part of a large group of learners tutored by our brilliant music team. And then experience the power of being part of a large choir, singing to perfection in the wondrous setting of Southwell Minster. People in similar events have called it an emotional highlight of their lives.
And while you are doing this, ask people you know to sponsor you as you take on this challenge for yourself – and maybe for someone you know or knew who has been affected by Alzheimer’s. And help us smash our fundraising target to help the Alzheimer’s Society. Details will be here nearer Christmas.
